In January, Theia announced that Axis Communications is reselling the company's lenses. Specifically, Axis is offering the Theia SY110 Fixed Focal Megapixel Lens as an accessory lens for use with the Axis megapixel surveillance cameras.

The SY110 is a 1.7 millimeter lens which yields up to 110 degrees of horizontal field of view when used with Axis' 211M network camera (a 1.3 megapixel camera). The lens provides up to 116 degrees of horizontal field of view when used with Axis' 2MP 223M network surveillance camera.

Theia says the use of their lens with these Axis cameras " provides the opportunity to cover more area with a single network camera -- potentially reducing the overall cost of ownership as compared to an analog system."

The lens maker also noted that its technology, the "Linear Optical Technology" provides an image with less than 1 percent barrel distortion (a.k.a. fisheye distortion). The company compares that minimum distortion with other wide-angle lenses, noting that most wide-angle lenses with more than 80 degrees of horizontal field of view produce visible barrel distortion and "degraded image resolution" in the areas of view affected by barrel distortion.
