High definition and megapixel surveillance solutions provider Avigilon announced Monday that it has joined the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF), thus enabling the integration of ONVIF standard-compliant IP cameras with its Control Center surveillance software. ONVIF was founded by video companies Axis, Bosch and Sony in 2008 to develop a global open standard for the network interface of network video products.

According to Dave Tynan, Avigilon’s vice president of global sales, joining ONVIF will provide its customers with a greater variety of technology options when implementing their surveillance systems.

“Developing IP camera standards is important to the continued expansion of the IP video surveillance market and is also an important part of ensuring our customer’s ability to implement comprehensive security solutions,” he said. “We are committed to joining standards organizations such as ONVIF to ensure that our HD and megapixel video surveillance system continues to lead the industry with support for a broad list of leading IP surveillance cameras.”
